This is a Union position.
The Facilities Department is responsible for the maintenance, repair and operation of all buildings and grounds on the Tufts Medford Campus. The department seeks a qualified individual to fill its available Utility Worker II position.
Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, Building Manager and Utility Worker I, the Utility Worker II will perform duties that may include, but are not limited to:
- Policing areas as assigned for loose trash, sticks, bottles, dead animals or their spoor, and empty trash barrels;
- Mowing lawns and field areas and operate other large and small grounds-related equipment;
- Sweeping roads and walks and rake lawn areas;
- Applying lime, fertilizer, and weed controls;
- Performing lawn renovations, top dressing and other routine lawn maintenance procedures;
- Edging, weeding, mulching, planting, pruning and other routine garden operations;
- Shoveling snow and operating snow removal equipment;
- Operating trucks, skidding loaders, moving furniture, setting up for special events;
- Cleaning out mechanical rooms, and storm drains;
- Performing similar or related duties as required.
The selected candidate must be willing and able to be trained to perform daily entries in the computerized work order system.
Basic Requirements: The Utility Worker II must have experience and knowledge in the maintenance and care of University grounds. The selected candidate should have a High School diploma and a minimum of two (2) years of prior landscaping experience. A valid CDL (B) License with Air Brake Endorsement and a 520 CMR 6.00 Hoisting license are required. The applicant must be physically fit to carry out all necessary functions of the Utility II position. Mechanical inclination is important. Knowledge of plant material, planting techniques, pruning, weeding, grass cutting and snow removal is also necessary. The Utility Worker II must be mature, adaptable, and have the ability to work pleasantly and tactfully with the University staff, students, faculty, and co-workers. The ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language is required. The Utility Worker II must be able to lift 100 lbs. and physically meet the requirements of the position.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm. Required overtime, as needed.
