The primary purpose of this position is to plan and coordinate major turbine outages and turbine related capital projects and act as the technical lead for turbine-generators. The ideal candidate will be involved in the investigation and resolution of plant turbine/ generator problems, working closely with the operational and engineering station teams to identify the root causes. The individual will be responsible for creation of outage and capital related work scopes and schedules. The individual will report to the Engineering Manager at Astoria and will be required to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in both the maintenance, engineering and operations departments.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Promote safety by ensuring overall safe equipment condition and operation through enforcement of housekeeping standards, policies and procedures.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement short and long term Turbine-generator investment and maintenance strategies.
  • Provide daily operations and maintenance support for reliable operation of station turbines and generators.
  • Assist in organizing outage meetings and coordinating activities during station major overhauls.
  • Work closely with colleagues at the station to investigate and conduct root cause analysis of turbine generators and to identify options for the mitigation or elimination of these deficiencies.
  • Prepare Work Scope and procurement packages for turbine generator work.
  • Manage the technical communications with suppliers of equipment, services or parts such that USPG secures these items on an “informed buyer” basis
  • Manage assigned projects in an affective manner, which is to include; progress, cost, quality, heath and safety and environmental impact. The individual must have a strong commitment to finishing projects within budgeted costs and timeframe.

Qualifications:
  • A degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Two to Five years of experience in a power plant engineering role, with practical appreciation of the issues faced at a production facility
  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to provide practical solutions to plant problems in a commercial setting.
  • High quality leadership and communication (written and verbal) skills, plus a proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of counterparties including contractors, professional service providers, regulatory agents and governmental agency representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with complex situations requiring the assessment of priorities under pressures of time without the ability to call upon immediate support
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with fellow team members and to provide clear leadership.
  • Demonstrate strong computer skills in the use of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Good understanding of work scheduling and prioritization techniques including program management and critical path analysis
  • Candidate must be available to work extended hours and to respond to emergency calls during off hours
