Summary
Note: This is a 2 year term position
An opportunity currently exists for the position of Right-of-Way Planner within the Siting group, Asset Integration. This role requires a technically proficient, outgoing and innovative individual to work on the siting of new transmission facilities.
Under the direction of the Manager, Siting, the Right-of-Way Planner is accountable for the route and site selection for transmission lines and substations.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and select transmission line routes and/or substation sites which optimize siting criteria and meet the needs of our customers and affected stakeholders.
- Accountable for agency referrals to all levels of Government, other utilities, pipeline owners, etc. that may be impacted by a transmission project ensuring all required approvals and mitigation measures are in place.
- Implement appropriate stakeholder and landowner participation processes to inform and gather input from the public.
- Lead any open houses required to obtain public input.
- Prepare Alberta Utility Commision (AUC) facilities applications.
- Manage consultants doing siting and public consultation for transmission facilities.
- Act as AltaLink's witness for siting issues at AUC hearings.
Qualifications
- Engineering Technology, Planning, Communication, Forestry and Environmental or Agricultural diploma, or equivalent.
- Experience /exposure in dealing with various regulatory requirements and approval processes.
- 3-5 years experience in public consultation, land acquisition, land use coordination and planning or transmission line operations/maintenance or transmission line design/construction.
- A general knowledge of design and construction of transmission lines & substations would be considered a strong asset.
- Background in dealing with land use issues, rights-of-way etc. with public stakeholders.
- Experience in enrolling outside agencies and Government departments to ensure their participation in the siting process.
- Witness skills or similar background in public communication forums.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong Team Player.
- Witness experience would be an asset.
- Membership in the International Association for Public Participation would be an asset.
