Altalink has various levels of Right of Way Planners. These roles requires a technically proficient, outgoing and innovative individual to work on the siting of new transmission facilities.
Right-of-Way Planners are accountable for the route and site selection for transmission lines and substations related to various projects.
Responsibilities
- Dependent on Level may include all of some of the following:
- Coordinate the evaluation and selection of transmission line routes and/or substation sites which optimize siting criteria and meet the needs of our customers and affected stakeholders.
- Coordinate agency referrals to all levels of Government, other utilities, pipeline owners, etc. that may be impacted by a transmission project ensuring all required approvals and mitigation measures are in place, including obtaining approvals where required.
- Coordinate consultants involved in siting related work.
- Provide interpretation of legislation and policy related to siting work. Oversee the use of and provide direction for databases, filing and records systems for the Siting group. Provide guidance and mentoring of junior staff.
- Provide support in implementing appropriate stakeholder and landowner participation processes to inform and gather input from the public.
- Stand as a witness and provide support in regulatory hearings.
- Prepare Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) facilities applications.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Technology, Planning, Communication, Forestry, Environmental, Agricultural, Planning, or Project Management or equivalent.
- Membership in The International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) would be considered an asset.
- Minimum of 2 - 7 years of applicable experience depending on level of position.
- Proven ability in dealing with the public.
- Experience in project planning/management would be considered an asset.
- Background in dealing with land use issues, rights-of-way etc. with public stakeholders.
- A general knowledge of design and construction of transmission lines & substations would be considered a strong asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong Team Player.
