Duties:
A challenging opportunity exists for permanent Journeyman Power System Electricians. Working directly under the supervision of the Field Coordinator or Lead Hand you will perform work in the construction and maintenance, and the protection and control areas of high voltage electrical substations. You will construct, commission, troubleshoot, repair and maintain high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, instrument transformers and all other related equipment. You will also work on mechanical and electromechanical relays, remote terminal units (RTUs), SCADA systems, human machine interfaces (HMI), repair/troubleshoot protection and control circuits, and other relay related processes. Journeymen PSE’s will also work within the extensive downtown network distribution system which is unique to only a few cities in North America. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, remote monitor, switch and isolate approximately 850 transformers in addition to working with Powerline Technicians to splice all types of conductors and work on energized and de-energized network systems as required.
As a member of the Substation and Network Team you will be solely dedicated to these two areas; however, opportunities also exist within the company such as, but not limited to, the construction, commissioning and maintenance of the City of Calgary Light Rail Transit System (LRT), System Operations in ENMAX’s Control Centre, Electrical Construction Planning, and Revenue Metering.
Salary:
As outlined in the IBEW contract
$43.96 per hour based on January 1, 2010 rates
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will:
- be qualified or able to qualify as a Power Systems Electrician under the Alberta Manpower Development Act.
- have a good working knowledge of the methods and procedures used in utility substation construction, maintenance, protection and control.
- have knowledge of the Alberta Electrical Utility Code and Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations as they pertain to the trade
- have knowledge of gas insulated switchgear
- be willing to assist and train apprentices
- ensure proper care and use of vehicles, equipment, and the worksite under your direction
- be able to work comfortably in underground confined space environments.
- have a valid Provincial driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Province of Alberta Class 1 driver’s license are essential
- have experience working with MS Windows, MS Office, and computer based test equipment
A certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent is also desirable
