The Financial Analyst is accountable to prepare and coordinate budgets and related submissions for the business unit and provide related analysis and support to the business unit vice-president, managers, and others (both internal and external to the business unit).  The position also assists in the development of the business unit´s business plan; designs, implements and maintains business processes, tools and reports which will improve job performance; provides training and support to business unit staff.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Organize and execute work assignments with minimal supervision; design, prepare and maintain records which provide financial and operating information for decision support to business unit management at all levels.

·        Prepare business unit operating and capital budgets, together with related submissions, reports and presentations; take a leadership role in business unit budget and business planning activities, including calling and chairing meetings and preparing and delivering presentations; supervise and coordinate the annual preparation and submission of operating budgets from the sub-business unit areas and capital budgets from the business unit groups.

·        Monitor and report on business unit performance on a continual basis.

·        Provide significant input and assistance in the preparation of the annual business plan.

·        Sponsor and coordinate projects to ensure the continuous improvement of budgetary and administrative processes; investigate administrative inefficiencies; identify, recommend, implement and support the development of efficient, effective and economical business processes (automated and manual as appropriate) within the business unit.

·        Represent the interests of the business unit on special projects and committees.

·        Supervise Co-op students assigned to budget support tasks.

·        Assist other members of the department in the completion of assigned tasks to ensure deadlines are met.

·        Perform other related and assigned duties associated with department activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·        Bachelor´s degree in Business Administration, Commerce or other related discipline;

·        Currently working toward, with a commitment to obtain, one of the following professional accounting designations: Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified General Accountant (CGA);

·        Four years of experience in one of the following areas:  accounting, budgeting, systems development, project management or auditing.  Three of those years should involve some administrative duties such as the maintenance of records, budgets, programs, accounting functions and overall daily administration.

·        Successful completion of the Financial Analyst assessment process.

·        Commitment to undertake continuing professional development, as mutually agreed upon, of at least 60 hours during each three year period.

 
This position falls within the scope of the Communications, Energy & Paperworkers Union (CEP), Local 649.
